1957 Rolex Oyster Precision Ref. 6422 With Rare Explorer Chevron Dial, Original Bracelet and Box

If you boil Rolex down to its purest form, you get the Oyster. This is where the brand built its foundation. Long before the Submariner, GMT, or Daytona existed, the Oyster introduced Rolex’s revolutionary screw down case design that changed waterproof wristwatches forever. The fluted bezel originally served a purpose by screwing into the case to secure the crystal, while the grooved case back completed the system. This reference 6422 comes from that era when Rolex was producing simple, elegant watches with incredible dial variations that collectors now chase aggressively.

This 1957 Rolex Oyster Precision Ref. 6422 features one of the rarest dial configurations you can find on a vintage Oyster: a beautiful Chevron dial with alternating quadrant textures that create incredible depth depending on lighting angles. The dial has aged into a gorgeous creamy tone that gives the watch exceptional warmth and character. Even more impressive, this is the highly desirable non luminous configuration, meaning it was produced without radium lume from the factory. There are no lume plots on the dial and it still retains its original correct non luminous hands, which is extremely difficult to find today since many examples have been altered over the years.

The condition is what truly makes this watch special. The case remains completely unpolished, with thick lugs and sharp edges that are becoming increasingly difficult to find on 1950s Rolex watches. The reference and serial numbers between the lugs are fully visible and crisp.

Inside the watch is the legendary Rolex Caliber 1210 manual wind movement, one of the most durable and dependable movements Rolex ever produced. Watchmakers often praise this caliber for being incredibly robust, simple to service, and built like a tank. It is known for its reliability and has earned a reputation as one of the strongest manual wind calibers Rolex ever made.

The watch still retains its original 1957 dated Rolex Oyster swiss rivet bracelet along with the very rare and correct 60 end links, a detail that serious vintage collectors will immediately appreciate.

Even better, it includes its original Rolex box, and the box still carries its original reference sticker showing 6422 Steel/Band, a rare detail almost never seen after nearly 70 years.

The movement has been fully overhauled by us and is functioning exactly as it should.

To make this offering even better, the watch will also include a brand new premium Italian leather strap from Milano Straps, giving the next owner the option to wear it on either the original bracelet or leather.

The case back features a vintage engraving that reads “Jack Boddy,” adding a unique personal history to the watch.

Finding a Rolex 6422 is difficult. Finding one with a rare Chevron dial, creamy patina, original bracelet, correct #60 end links, original box sticker, correct non luminous configuration, an unpolished case, and the legendary Caliber 1210 is exceptionally rare.
