1956 Rolex Submariner 6536/1 Chronometer Certificate with Box and Papers

This is an incredibly rare and historic early example of the Rolex Submariner reference 6536/1, produced in 1956. The 6536/1 is among the earliest iterations of the iconic Submariner line, predating crown guards and embodying the purest vintage dive watch design. This specific piece is an extremely desirable chronometer-certified version, which was only produced in very limited quantities. Most 6536/1 models are not chronometer rated, making this a true collector’s gem.

What makes this watch even more intriguing is the inventory number engraved on one of the lugs, a strong indication that it was originally retailed by Tiffany & Co., as such markings were typical of Tiffany-issued Rolex watches during the 1950s and 1960s.

The case is in outstanding condition and appears unpolished, preserving its original profile and edges. Case back still has the original finish. The dial is original and was expertly refinished decades ago by a master watchmaker. The work is so precise that it can only be detected by a highly trained eye and upon close in-hand inspection. The bezel and insert are high-quality replacements crafted to closely match the vintage style. The bezel currently does not rotate, but the mechanism beneath is clean and intact with no corrosion or damage.

The serial and model numbers are still fully intact between the lugs. Inside the case back, the watch bears its chronometer certificate number, matching the original paperwork. a detail rarely preserved in full sets of this age.

This set includes:

  • Original Rolex box
  • Original chronometer certificate with matching reference, serial, and chronometer numbers
  • Unfilled warranty paper (Dated 1956)
  • Original red Rolex chronometer seal
  • Original green Rolex tag with reference, serial, and movement numbers written on it.
  • Leather strap from Milanostraps (non-Rolex) that complements the watch’s vintage aesthetic

A true investment-grade collector’s piece, this Rolex Submariner 6536/1 represents an important chapter in Rolex diving history. With its full documented set and rare chronometer designation, it stands among the most complete and historically significant examples to surface in recent years.
