The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Bubbleback reference 5050 is one of the finest expressions of Rolex’s legendary Bubbleback era. This is an incredibly honest survivor and, in our opinion, one of the finest examples of the reference 5050 available today. The case remains remarkably thick with beautifully defined lugs, and we believe it has never been polished. It retains its original factory proportions and finishing, preserving the elegant profile that made the Bubble Back one of Rolex’s most iconic early wristwatches.

The original silver dial is undoubtedly the centerpiece of this watch. It has remained remarkably clean, showing only the lightest signs of age after more than seventy-five years. The original radium luminous material is still present on every hour marker and both original hands, having aged to a beautiful warm beige color rather than the dark brown or green tones commonly seen on Bubble Back models from this period. The original Rolex screw-down crown, original acrylic crystal, original hands, and original dial have all remained with the watch, making it an exceptionally complete and untouched example.

The watch is fitted with an authentic vintage Rolex Oyster bracelet featuring the highly desirable oversized Rolex crown logo on the clasp. The bracelet was installed on the watch during the 1950s rather than when it was originally sold, making it a correct period Rolex accessory that complements the watch beautifully. There is a small professional repair on the center of the clasp that was carried out many years ago by the previous owner. The repair was executed to a very high standard, functions perfectly, and does not affect the integrity, appearance, or usability of the bracelet in any way.

Adding even further to its desirability, this Bubble Back is accompanied by its original Rolex presentation box. Complete examples with their original box are rarely encountered, making this an especially attractive opportunity for serious collectors.

What truly sets this watch apart is its originality. The thick unpolished case, exceptionally clean original dial, intact original radium lume, original crown, original crystal, original hands, authentic period Rolex bracelet, and original box come together to create a Bubble Back that is rarely seen today.
