1947 Rolex 3372 Oyster Perpetual Bubbleback
Offered here is a beautiful and highly collectible Rolex Oyster Perpetual Bubbleback reference 3372, dating to 1947. This elegant two-tone model features a stainless steel Oyster case complemented by a solid gold bezel, original Rolex Oyster crown, and gold dial furniture. The Bubbleback is one of the most historically important watches ever produced by Rolex, representing the company’s early success in self-winding wristwatch technology and laying the foundation for every automatic Rolex that followed.
The watch retains its original and very attractive two-tone silver dial with a recessed center, applied gold Arabic numerals, arrow hour markers, and matching original gold hands. The dial remains exceptionally clean for its age with only light, honest aging, giving it wonderful vintage character. This example was originally produced without luminous material, exactly as it left the Rolex factory, making it especially desirable for collectors looking for originality.
The stainless steel case remains in very nice vintage condition with normal wear expected from nearly 80 years of careful use. The original Rolex Oyster crown is still present, the original acrylic crystal remains fitted, and the serial and reference numbers are fully visible. The screw-down case back is engraved “George E. Johnson, Cleveland, Ohio,” adding a unique piece of period history. At approximately the 9 o’clock position on the case back there is a small cosmetic mark from a previous attempt to open the watch with a sharp tool. This does not affect the watch in any way and has been clearly photographed for complete transparency.
The watch is fitted with a vintage leather strap that I believe to be original Rolex. Due to its age, the interior markings have faded and are no longer visible, which is common on straps of this era. It is paired with its original Rolex gold-plated buckle featuring the Rolex coronet and remains in excellent condition. The watch is also accompanied by its original vintage Rolex presentation box, completing an increasingly difficult package to find today.
The Bubbleback earned its famous nickname from the rounded case back designed to house Rolex’s pioneering Perpetual automatic movement. Produced from the 1930s through the early 1950s, these watches marked a turning point in wristwatch history and established Rolex as the leader in automatic waterproof timepieces. The reference 3372 is among the most elegant post-war Bubbleback references, combining the durability of stainless steel with the warmth of solid gold accents and a beautifully balanced dial design.
Overall, this is an exceptionally honest and original example of a 1947 Rolex Bubbleback that has survived remarkably well. With its original dial, matching hands, original crown, original crystal, original Rolex box, believed original Rolex strap with original buckle, engraved case back, and attractive vintage character, it represents an outstanding opportunity to acquire one of the most iconic early automatic Rolex watches produced.
Please Note (Especially for New Collectors)
Before placing your order, please remember that most of our watches are authentic vintage timepieces from the 1920s–1990s. Although every watch is carefully serviced, we preserve as many original movement components as possible to maintain its authenticity. Because of this, vintage mechanical watches will not keep time as precisely as modern watches, and small daily time variations are completely normal.
If your priority is perfect timekeeping, we recommend purchasing a modern watch instead. Vintage watches are meant to be appreciated for their history, craftsmanship, originality, and character. not absolute accuracy.
